Playa del Carmen has come a long way from it's sleepy beginnings as a gateway to Cozumel. Located just 42 miles (68 kilometers) south of Cancun, Playa del Carmen is now a resort destination on it's own. The added flavor of having Cancun and Cozumel an hour away only adds to it's appeal.
