TULUM
Tulum is the most popular of Mexico's Mayan sites, and for several good reasons. It's location has a lot to do with it, only 81 miles (131 kilometers) south of Cancun.
The photograph of the Tulum temple sitting above the azure seas with the incredibly white beaches in the backgound is one of the most popular photographs of Mexico's Caribbean coast.
The spectacular ruins of Tulum are located on a low bluff just above the turquoise waters the beach, adding to the popularity of this great Mayan site. A small sandy beach at the north end of the ruins is perfect for taking a refreshing dip in the warm Caribbean sea on a hot day!
Guided tours of the Tulum grounds are very reasonable, and are a great help in gaining a better understanding of the Mayan's way of life. Guides are usually included in tour packages, or can be arranged last minute at the entrance to the Tulum site.
