    ISLA MUJERES HOTELS

    Staying in a hotel on the small island of Isla Mujeres is like stepping back into a slower more relaxed time. The flashy and elaborate hotels just across the bay in Cancun are a whole different breed than those found on the island.

    Land is scarce on Isla Mujeres, so most of the hotels are small and quaint. Not that there aren't some very nice hotels on the island, just nothing like the mega-resorts in Cancun.

    The majority of the hotels on the island are located on the northern part of the island. Some of these hotels are located on or just adjacent to the northern beaches, and some of them are located right in the heart of downtown Isla Mujeres.

    Although there are exceptions to this rule, most of the hotels located on or next to the beach are on the upper end of prices, and most of the hotels downtown are more affordable.

    Chosing the best location for your hotel on the island depends on what you like to do. It you are a beach hound you will want to be in one of the great little hotels at the very north end of the island.

    Visitors whose main goal is to take advantage of the excellent shopping on the island might do well to stay in a hotel downtown, in close proximity to the dozens of great shops and markets.

    For those who want to really escape the crowds there are hotels on the south end of the island that do not experience nearly as much activity as those on the north end.

    The west end of Isla Mujeres is genrally the calmest, and a great place to watch the incredible sunsets. Just west of downtown there are several casual restaurants for taking in the view of the ocean and Cancun on the horizon.
